Honourable Vice President of India, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan inaugurated GKNM College of Nursing in Coimbatore
A New Era of Healthcare Education
Coimbatore, 22.07.2026. Marking a historic milestone in its four-decade journey of healthcare education, the brand-new campus of the GKNM College of Nursing was inaugurated in Coimbatore. The prestigious event celebrated the transition of the institution into a premier nursing college.
The landmark campus was officially inaugurated by the Honourable Vice President of India, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan. Joining him as the Guest of Honour was Shri Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu. The ceremony was graced by the leadership of the Kuppuswamy Naidu Charitable (KNC) Trust, including KNC Trust President Shri R. Gopinath, Vice-President Shri Sanjay Jayavarthanavelu and by Dr.Ragupathy Veluswamy, Chief Executive Officer of GKNM Hospital. Speaking at the ceremony, the dignitaries emphasized that nursing is a calling built on compassion, knowledge, and service. The launch of this institution marks a transformational phase for GKNM, expanding its capacity to prepare up to 100 nursing students annually into future healthcare leaders.
A 40-Year Legacy of Nursing Excellence: The roots of this institution trace back to 1984 when it was established as the Institute of Nursing to commemorate the Birth Centenary of the revered founder, Shri G. Kuppuswamy Naidu. Standing proud as the first private nursing institution in the Coimbatore District, it began with a humble batch of 20 students in the Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (DGNM) program. Over the years, the trust expanded its footprint by adding specialized M.Sc. Nursing programs in 2010.
State-of-the-Art Infrastructure: Housed in a dedicated, state-of-the-art academic building located right across from the main GKNM Hospital, the new campus has been thoughtfully designed to facilitate world-class healthcare training.
