Frequently Asked Questions

Faq Common

Anesthesia is a medical technique that prevents pain in patients with acute pain, emergency intubation, surgical and diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures. Being the Best Anesthesiology Hospital in Coimbatore, we follow a patient-first approach. They can undergo any minor or major procedure, knowing that they will be safe and comfortable due to the temporary loss of sensation or consciousness induced by the type of anaesthesia used.

There are three main types:

  • General anesthesia: which renders the patient unconscious.
  • Regional anesthesia: numbs a larger area (e.g., spinal or epidural).
  • Local anesthesia: numbs a small, specific area.

By procedure and patient health, the most appropriate type is selected by the anesthesiologist.

Yes, we have a specialized team, including senior anesthetists and advanced monitoring equipment-trained professionals. GKNM is the Best Anesthesiology Hospital in Coimbatore and has highly professional anesthesiologists who are adopting some advanced systems in monitoring and protocols concerning the safety of the patient before, during, and after such procedures.

We provide the best and most trustworthy Anaesthesiology Treatment in Coimbatore. Our anesthesiologist is a physician with specialized training in ensuring your safety and comfort before, during, and after surgery. Their activities include evaluating medical history, assessing risks, and formulating plans with respect to the most suitable anesthesia individualized for you. They are responsible for the administration of the anesthetic and for the monitoring of vital signs throughout the surgical procedure.

Preparation for anesthesia by a patient starts with the sharing of their complete medical history and any allergies and currently used medications with the anesthesiologist to arrive at a safe plan. Naturally, instructions regarding fasting must be followed, usually involving abstinence from food and drinks for a few hours before the actual procedure. Our staff will provide you with detailed pre-anesthesia requirements during your preoperative consultations.

This could involve very common side effects like nausea, drowsiness, soreness of the throat (due to the breathing tubes), or transient confusion; most of these are mild and temporary. Serious complications are extremely rare and minimized with appropriate monitoring and preoperative assessment.

GKNM is a Hospital in Coimbatore with a focus on patient-centric care, so a patient is allowed to express their preference regarding which anesthesia they would like to receive, but the ultimate decision will belong to the anesthesiologist, who will select the anesthesia type based on safety concerns, medical condition, and the type of surgery. The anesthesiologist will go over different anesthesia options with the patient during the pre-anesthesia checkup and will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each type of anesthetic. During this time, the patient will be encouraged to express anything that may help the doctor customize the anesthetic plan.
