GKNM Hospitals ongoing dedication to healthcare Master class on Ross Procedure
The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Division of Pediatric Surgery of GKNM Hospital, hosted the "Master Class on Ross Procedure" on 17th February 2026 at the GKD Auditorium, GKNM Hospital. The event aimed to provide knowledge and training for cardiac surgeons, cardiologists, and other healthcare professionals involved in complex valve surgery.
Children or the young patient population are the ideal candidates for this type of complex open-heart surgery. In this master class, participants had the opportunity to experience the live demonstrations and case presentations of the Ross procedure from a highly experienced global facilitator.
Dr. Joseph A. Dearani, Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, USA, is the faculty member who led the program and did the step-by-step walkthrough of Ross's procedure. It also included a lecture on the long-term results of his Ross procedure. Dr. Nathan Taggart, Cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic, USA, addressed the selection of patients for this procedure, which is crucial in deciding the outcome of surgery. Live case demonstrations and clinical discussions further enhance the clinical skills.
The international faculty included members from the Mayo Clinic, USA, as well as Dr. Joseph A. Dearani, Dr. Nathan Taggart, and Dr. Chandra Sekara K.
The academic program is led by Dr. Vijayakumar Raju, Director of Congenital Cardiac Surgery, GKNM Hospital, under the leadership and mentorship of Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy, CEO of the hospital.
