GKNM Hospitals Advanced CME and Workshop on FISH Molecular Diagnostics

May 12, 2026

The specialised one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program and hands-on workshop on Fluorescence In Situ Hybridisation (FISH) were successfully organised in the Division of Molecular & Advanced Diagnostics, Department of Laboratory Medicine at G. Kuppuswamy Naidu Memorial (GKNM) Hospital. This was an important occasion for enhancing technical knowledge and diagnostic accuracy in the field of modern medicine.

Expanding Clinical Excellence

As a leading Hospital in Coimbatore and in healthcare innovation, we recognise the importance of FISH, a powerful molecular diagnostic tool that can identify and locate particular DNA or RNA sequences within cells. It is a key impact of the event, which was

  1. Correct diagnosis of Hematolymphoid Malignancies and solid tumours.
  2. Prenatal Diagnostics and constitutional disorder screening.
  3. Targeted Therapy Selection, by identifying specific chromosomal and genetic alterations, can inform the process.

Event Highlights

It was launched by our Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy, with a panel of experts who included the following:

Dr Shirley Sundersingh (Professor & Head, Dept of Oncopathology, Cancer Institute (W.I.A.), Chennai).

Dr Madhubalaji Sivakumar, Assistant Professor, Dept of Cytogenetics, CMC Vellore.

Dr A. Radha (Chairperson, Dept of Laboratory Medicine & Consultant Oncopathologist, GKNM Hospital).

Dr Vishnu Chandrakumar, Head, Division of Molecular & Advanced Diagnostics, GKNM Hospital.

Dr S. Sivaranjani, Consultant Oncopathologist, GKNM Hospital.

Nearly 100 delegates, pathologists, oncopathologists and senior residents from various institutions across the state enthusiastically participated at the workshop.

The HAPA programme is designed to equip students with hands-on experience in learning and technical skills. We believe at GKNM that learning is through doing. The workshop put participants in an immersive experience with:

  1. Interactive Case Discussions: Complex diagnostic patterns.
  2. Practical Workflows: From Concept to implementation of FISH in routine clinical practice.
  3. Technical Troubleshooting: Common problems and how to overcome them in molecular pathology.

Conclusion

We are dedicated to clinical growth. We are committed to growth in clinical practice. At the event, our organising team highlighted the importance of ongoing academic training for precision medicine to be the standard of care worldwide.
