GKNM Hospital Observes World Hypertension Day with a Three-Day Community Awareness Program
We, GKNM Hospital, marked World Hypertension Day 2026 with a meaningful three-day community health initiative held from May 18 to 20 at our iOP Centre. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Ragupathy Veluswamy, CEO of GKNM Hospital, in the presence of Dr. Ragavendhra, Medical Director of the iOP Centre, along with senior physicians and staff.
This was planned to educate and empower the public. The program offered free blood pressure screenings, dietary consultations, physiotherapy and fitness guidance, ophthalmology consultations and alternative medicine advisory sessions. Hundreds of community members participated across the three days and benefited from direct access to specialists across multiple departments.
On May 18, a Multi-Specialty Panel discussion on hypertension and overall health was conducted by doctors from cardiology, nephrology, general medicine, neurology and ophthalmology. Members of the public had the opportunity to interact directly with specialists and get their questions answered.
On May 19, awareness sessions led by cardiologists and general medicine physicians focused on understanding hypertension, its risk factors, and practical steps for blood pressure management.
On May 20, the alternative medicine department conducted a fitness and wellness session, guiding participants on exercise routines and healthy lifestyle practices that help control blood pressure naturally.
Doctors at the event emphasised that hypertension is not merely a medical condition but a reflection of one's lifestyle. Proper nutrition, regular physical activity, stress management, and healthy daily habits can go a long way in preventing and controlling high blood pressure.
We remain committed to conducting regular medical awareness programs and free health camps to promote a healthier community.
