Why Are You Feeling Tired All the Time? Common Causes You Should Know

Sep 18, 2026

Feeling drained after a week of work or reaching for a third cup of coffee by your evening break? That’s something normal. But if it continues for weeks or months, it might be more than just tiredness.

What are some of the reasons you might feel tired all the time?

  1. Lack of Quality Sleep - Not getting enough sleep might lead to less energy, productivity, and concentration. Having poor sleep schedules does not allow your body and mind to fully recover. Some of the causes of fatigue include sleep apnea, insomnia, and increased screen time, especially at night.
  2. Nutrient Deficiency - The lack of sufficient nutrients in your diet leads to iron deficiency (anaemia), Vitamin C & D deficiency and Vitamin B12 deficiency.
  3. Emotional Strain and Stress - The body and the mind are interrelated. Stressing out a lot, be it at work or at home, drains you both physically and emotionally. The body releases cortisol and adrenaline to respond to these challenges. Although it is a temporary fix, chronic stress affects your mind and body.
  4. Less Consumption of Water - You might think, how can this lead to tiredness? But consuming at least 2 litres of water per day is necessary. Otherwise, you feel lightheaded, get headaches and dry mouth. This is due to reduced blood flow and reduced oxygen flow.
  5. Lack of Physical Activity - Irregular physical activity weakens your muscles. You might wonder how this is even related to fatigue. But this is one of the reasons that is overlooked. Not exercising regularly might make you feel sluggish and low on energy.
  6. Lifestyle Habits - Staying awake late at night frequently, consuming too much caffeine and alcohol interrupts your sleep schedule and eventually your overall health.
  7. Medical Conditions: Early signs of fatigue can help in the early diagnosis and treatment of medical conditions. You also tend to feel tired if you have a heart problem, thyroid issues, or diabetes.

How can you increase your energy levels?

  1. Having proper sleep schedules, at least 7 hours a day. Avoiding screen time at night before sleeping
  2. Consuming a balanced diet with lean protein, fruits, vegetables, and other nutrients
  3. Relax your mind with meditation or yoga, and take short breaks between work
  4. Consuming enough water to keep your body and mind fresh
  5. Exercising at least 5 times a week to strengthen your muscles and stay energised
  6. Avoid consuming alcohol and too much caffeine

When should you visit a doctor?

  1. If the tiredness persists for weeks or months
  2. If it is accompanied by dizziness and shortness of breath
  3. If it interrupted your daily activities
